I started learning the oud in 1989 at the National Music Conservatory of Amman, Jordan under the tutelage of Sakher Hattar. While in Amman, I also received tutelage and guidance from Iraqi oud virtuoso Munir Bashir. As a soloist and a member of the Conservatory’s Arabic Music Ensemble, I participated in many of the Middle East’s musical and cultural festivals, including Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts and the Arabic Music Festival in Cairo. In the United States and Canada, I performed both as a soloist and ensemble member with various groups in Boston, Chicago, Washington, DC, Detroit and most recently Montreal. Additionally, I have given lectures and workshops on Arabic oud, maqam theory and Arabic music history. You can access my music CV, with select participations and performances here.
In 2012, I established the Juthoor project, and in 2019, I established the Etihad Middle Eastern Music Salon. In 2020, I co-founded the world music trio Les Arrivants in Montreal. You can listen to my debut album “Juthoor” here. You can also listen to Les Arrivants’ debut album “Home” here.
I give private oud lessons in person and online. Contact me for more information.
